Brennen Shingleton | HEAD COACHBrennen Shingleton is entering his tenth season (2021-22) as head coach at Texas Wesleyan after serving as an assistant coach and later as an associate head coach for ten years. Shingleton holds an overall record of 170-100 (.630), ranking second on the program's all-time wins list. He reached 100 wins during the team’s National Championship run in 2017, making him the fastest coach to reach the milestone in the history of the program.

Shingleton was named Sooner Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2016 and 2017 while leading the Rams to three consecutive regular season conference championships in 2016, 2017 and 2018. He was also named NAIA National Coach of the Year while leading the Rams to their second national title in 2017.

Last season (2020-21)  the COVID-19 pandemic limited the Rams to just 16 games, but Coach Shingleton guided his athletes to a 10-6 record and the program's fifth NAIA National Tournament appearance in the last six years. The Rams got out to a 3-0 start before the remainder of the fall slate was canceled. The Spring semester featured a 78-48 shellacking of John Brown, and wins over Oklahoma City and USAO. The SAC Tournament pitted the Rams against a MACU team that they had not faced during the regular season. The Rams pushed the Evangels to overtime before falling by a 70-64 final score. The Rams then received an at-large bid to the NAIA National Tournament where they were defeated in the opening round at Carroll College. Vydal Bradford was an Honorable Mention NAIA All-American after leading the team in scoring at 15.6 points per game. Bradford and Peyton Sallee were 2nd-team All-SAC selections while Sebastian Karwoski was an Honorable Mention All-SAC pick. The Rams also had success in the classroom with three Academic All-SAC selections and two SAC Scholar-Athletes.

In the 2016-17 season, Shingleton led the Rams to their second NAIA Division I National Championship and was named NAIA National Coach of the Year. The Rams finished with an overall record of 29-7 and featured three NAIA All-Americans for the first time in program history. Dion Rogers was named 1st-team NAIA All-American as well as MVP of the National Tournament. Naiel Smith was named 3rd-team All-American, and Najeal Young was an Honorable Mention All-American selection.

In the 2017-18 season, Shingleton guided the Rams to their third consecutive SAC Regular Season Championship with a league record of 14-6 as well as the team's third consecutive appearance in the NAIA National Tournament. Branden Jenkins was named SAC Player of the Year as well as 1st-team NAIA All-American. Ryan Harris (1st-team), Juwan Jones (honorable mention), and Curtiss Anderson (honorable mention) were also named All-Conference. The team featured two All-Americans in Jenkins and Harris (3rd-team) as well as an NAIA Scholar-Athlete in Praneeth Udumalagala.

Shingleton has amassed a record of 400-210 (170-100 as head coach) during his time at Texas Wesleyan and has helped produced 61 All-Conference players, 23 All-American selections, including six first-team NAIA All-Americas, and the program's only two-time Academic All-Americans CJ Higginbotham (06-07) and Praneeth Udumalagala (17-18).

Shingleton was a member of the NJCAA Region 14 Conference Championship team at Lon Morris College in 1993. After a year at Lon Morris, Shingleton played at NCAA Division I Southeastern Louisiana University. During his time as a Lion, the team won a share of the Trans America Championship, finished second in the polls, and was ranked as high as 32nd nationally by USA Today.

Shingleton joined the Texas Wesleyan basketball program in 2002 as an assistant coach. He earned his first win as a head coach during the 2006-07 season, after leading the Rams to a 113-78 win over Bacone College.

Shingleton completed his master’s in business administration at Texas Wesleyan University in 2005. He and his wife, Amanda, have three daughters, Kendall, Natalie, and Riley, and one son, Connor.
